Moomba Festival Lands in Melbourne This Weekend!
Presented by City of Melbourne, Moomba Festival is Australia’s largest free community festival and is located along the banks of the Yarra River at Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens.
The event boasts a huge program of activities and events running from the 9th – 12th of March. Highlights of the event include the famous Moomba parade, with its creative Melbourne-inspired floats, food trucks, carnival rides, sports competitions, and of course the wacky Birdman Rally
If you’ve never heard of the Birdman rally, you’re in for a hilarious treat! Here competitors try to hurl themselves across the Yarra River in hand-made costumes and ‘flying machines’. You’ll get to watch on as competitors take to the sky or crash and burn! But it’s not all about the laughs and cringe worthy attempts at crossing the Yarra River, it’s all performed in the name of charity.
Moomba festival is all about showcasing the talents of local performers and hospitality traders. The Moomba Master world-class watersports, and the pro skate and BMX competitions are also favourites in Melbourne, being the sports-mad city that we are!
Be sure to make your way down to the banks of the Yarra River for a weekend of excitement, great food & drinks, and a whole lot of fun!
