Here at Go West we’re are incredibly lucky to have thousands of wonderful guests that join us on tour from all over the world. On today’s tour to Phillip Island were delighted to meet Melissa & Jim from Georgia! They had a chat to us about their favourite travel experiences and top tips for visiting Melbourne for the first time!
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi there, my name is Melissa. I grew up in Chicago, but now live in Savannah GA. I am now retired and taking some time to travel, but I used to work in Marketing research and consulting. My partner Jim and I traveled to Australia together, staying at the Adelphi hotel in Melbourne CBD.
How long are you staying in Australia? How long is your stay in Melbourne?
We will be in Australia for one month, but unfortunately I will only stay in Melbourne for 4 days.
What else are you doing while in Melbourne?
During my stay in Melbourne I will mainly be staying in the CBD. I want to visit the Victoria Market, Old Goal, the circle tram, but also enjoy the many restaurants Melbourne has to offer. I am also hoping to explore the south side of the river!
Where else are you visiting in Australia and/ or the region? (New Zealand)
We’ve got a jam packed adventure planned, visiting Brisbane, Tasmania, The Great Ocean Road, Adelaide, Uluru, & Sydney.
What are your impressions of Australia and Australians so far? How are we different?
Australia is the friendliest country in the world! And they have very creative cuisine, especially when it come to breakfast.
From your experience, what is your most important advice for guests visiting Melbourne for the first time?
Spend as much time as you can within the city but also take some time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife outside the CBD. The Great ocean road & Phillip island are some amazing places to visit.
Tell us about a favourite travel memory of experience.
It’s difficult to choose, but one of my favorite travel memories was playing with penguins in Antarctica while I was visiting Cape Town. Another travel memory that I liked was seeing the pyramids, Petra and Jordan. I think the one that will always stay with me was spending a day on the back of a motorbike in Hanoi.
Tell us about your tour with Go West. What was your favourite part of the tour.
My guide Leah was wonderful. I loved her music selections and her sense of humour. The scenery that we saw during our trip was amazing and the Penguin parade was a good addition to the tour.
What a great day!
